Thank you to the group of leaders who shared valuable insight into the future of SONG, the Mac Davis Center for Songwriting.

We appreciate your commitment to our community and the legacy of Mac. Many participants provided valuable perspectives as we engaged a feasibility study conducted by Phoebe Chalk-Wadsworth and Michael Bassoff of Chalk Consulting. The Board of Directors recently met with them to review the results of their research. The aggregated results were confidential.

Overall, the feedback was incredibly positive. However, there were important questions about the timing and feasibility of fully funding a capital campaign. With rising construction costs and operational demands, we face challenges common to major projects today. Additionally, recent events, including the passing of our cherished board member and music icon, Don Caldwell, have prompted us to reassess our timeline and approach. While we remain dedicated to preserving Mac’s legacy, we also recognize the importance of pacing the campaign thoughtfully to ensure its long-term success.

In our discussions on the future of SONG, we are exploring several paths forward. These may include a phased approach to the project, partnerships with music industry leaders, and other creative solutions to achieve our goals.

We are especially excited about a collaborative effort with the City of Lubbock, Lisë Davis, and our Board of Directors to honor Mac with a statue at a prominent intersection in his hometown of Lubbock, Texas.

With your continued input, we are committed to honoring Mac’s passion for songwriting and education. We remain dedicated to sharing his inspiration and contributions to the world of entertainment.

Thank you once again for your time, support, and interest in SONG. Please feel free to reach out to us with your thoughts or questions.
